Ten years ago the initial incarnation of the Gathering of the Vibes took place at SUNY-Purchase College as a means to celebrate the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead following Garcias death the previous summer. So in 2005 it is rather fitting that the Vibes will celebrate its tenth year with a tribute to the music of Garcia and the Dead featuring Dark Star Orchestra, who will be joined by Peter Rowan, David Nelson, Melvin Seals, Donna Godchaux-MacKay, Tom Constanten and additional players to be announced. Also performing at this years festival will be Medeski, Martin & Wood, Del McCoury Band, Deep Banana Blackout, The New Deal, Assembly of Dust, Railroad Earth, RAQ and others. Returning for their 10th consecutive Vibes will be the Zen Tricksters (and we can only hope that ailing Strangefolk guitarist Jon Trafton will be feeling up to it so the band will be added to the bill for its tenth appearance). The Gathering of the Vibes will take place on August 12, 13 & 14 at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY.
