A number of musicians joined avant-garde guitarist Marc Ribot last night at New Yorks Bowery Ballroom. A benefit for MusicMobe, a database which will help facilitate the pairing of internationally touring artists with the progressive groups they can support, last nights show featured announced guests John Medeski, Chris Wood and Kenny Wollesen, as well as surprise performer DJ Logic. A loose, spacey jam-session, the Sunday evening gig wrapped up a busy weekend for Wood in particular who collaborated with Skerik and Johnny Vidacovich at the nearby Tonic on Friday and Saturday. MusicMobes first project will be to match the political preferences and touring routes of participating artists with the views and event schedules of various organizations. When MusicMobe finds a match it will alert the artist and organization about the possibility for collaboration. Ribot conceived the idea for MusicMobe will touring in Europe during the invasion if Iraq. Ribot says, Although it felt strange to speak about the war during performances, it felt stranger not to.
