A number of well-known keyboardists celebrated fifty-one years of the Moog last night at New York’s BB King Blues Club. Bob Moog, whose Minimoog synthesizer greatly expanded the keyboard’s palette, was on hand for the five-hour event which featured performances by Living Colour’s Will Calhoun, Bernie Worrell, Money Mark, Adam Holzman (Miles Davis), Don Preston and the Brazilian Girls’ Sabina Sciubba and Didi Gutman. Edgar Winter closed the evening with a two-song set, inviting DJ Logic onstage for an extended version of ‘Frankenstein.’ Particle’s Steven Molitz also led the Jason Miles Band through ‘Launchpad’ while Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess collaborated with Dixie Dregs/Jazz is Dead-alumnus Rod Morgenstein. DEODATO tipped his hat to the moog by performing his arrangement of ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’ backed by Jason Miles and his band.
