‘Wolf, the guitar designed for Jerry Garcia by Doug Irwin, will return to the stage once again. Garcia willed the instrument to Irwin who then auctioned it off in 2002 to support his medical expenses. The current owner is now allowing the Unbroken Chain Foundation to use the guitar to help raise donations. Thus, the first ‘Wolf Sessions’ will take place at the soundcheck prior to the Phil Lesh & Friends Colorado shows on July 15 and 16, via an auction that is now underway. Two high bidders will have an opportunity to play Wolf for a song on stage with Phil Lesh and Friends. In addition, Lesh is allowing two other deserving musicians also to have a chance (submission information is at Phillesh.net). As for the instrument itself, Lesh reports, I recently had the opportunity to hold and play Wolf – a spine-tingling experience, as I truly felt Jerry in the guitar.
