The Jacob Fred Jazz Odysseys next studio recording, due October 11, will balance the bands original material with some novel covers. On The Sameness of Difference the trio interprets the music of such artists as Bjork (‘Isobel’), The Flaming Lips (‘The Spark That Bled’), Charles Mingus (‘Fables of Faubus’), Neil Young (‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down’) Brian Wilson (‘Wonderful’) and Dave Brubeck (‘In Your Own Sweet Way’). Venerable producer Joel Dorn worked on the disc, which also features such JFJO originals as ‘Haliburton Breakdown,’ ‘Slow Breath, Silent Mind’ and ‘Davey’s Purple Powerline.’
