On June 16 Papa Grows Funk will pull double-duty in the Big Apple. At 11:30PM the group is scheduled to perform a show at New York Citys B.B. King Blues Club. However, band members John Gros (keyboards), Marc Pero (bass), and Jeffrey ‘Jellybean’ Alexander (drums) also will take the stage at 8:00 to back Chuck Berry for an early show at the club. Berry will turn 80 in the fall and his live performances outside his native St. Louis have become increasingly infrequent. As for PGF, the band is currently in the midst of a European swing which currently has them in Hannover, Germany at the Swinging Hannover Festival after which the quintet will travel to the Czech Republic for a pair of shows, including a gig on Sunday at Pragues Agharta Jazz Festival.
