Longtime readers may remember the name Jonah Smith from the spring of 2004 when the Brooklyn-based organ player won the inaugural JamOff competition. Smith entered JamOff on a whim and immediately won over a panel of Jambands.com/Relix staffers with his original song, ‘Tell It to the Mountain.’ Well, two years later, Smith has released his third album, Jonah Smith, on Relix Records. Featuring such songs as ‘My Morning Scene,’ ‘When We Say Goodnight’ and ‘Everything is New,’ Jonah Smith signals a new direction for the recently re -launched label, which will release a handful of additional albums and DVDs later this year. As for Smith, after recording an appearance on XM Radio today, the organist will open for Garage A Trois at San Francisco’s The Independent on July 2.
