In addition to his proposed 50 states album project, Sufjan Stevens has spent time over the past five years recording a series of Christmas EPs. Each December since 2001 (with the exception of 2004), the indie-pop star has spent a week at home working on a series of Holiday recordings with his friends and roommates. His instrumentation has been eclectic to say the least: guitar, banjo, oboe, Casiotone, wood flute, hand claps, sleigh bell, Hammond organ, and, of course, tree tinsel. In time for Christmas, Stevens will release a 5 EP boxed set collection of his recordings titled Songs for Christmas on November 21. The multi-disc set will mix traditional covers with originals, including such tracks as It’s Christmas! Let’s Be Glad!, Christmas in July and Ding! Dong!.
