Page McConnell opened his first solo tour last night at South Burlington, VTs Higher Ground. Like his recent promotional spots, the keyboardist primarily played material from his new self-titled solo album, including Heavy Rotation, Runaway Bride, Maid Marion, Back in the Basement and Beauty of a Broken Heart.’ During his set, he also performed a full band version of Vida Blue’s ‘Final Flight’ and Talking Heads’ ‘Memories Cant Wait.’ McConnell dug deeper during his encore, offering a solo version of Phishs Strange Design and a cover of Stealers Wheels Stuck in the Middle With You. Mike Gordon, who has been playing McConnell in chess on a weekly basis as of late, also took the stage alongside his old friend for Back in the Basement. McConnells solo tour continues tonight at Bostons Avalon.
