On the penultimate night of JJ Grey & MOFROs mini-tour with Assembly of Dusts, the new friends collaborated onstage for the first time. During Assembly of Dusts set at New Haven, CTs Toads Place, Grey took the stage to help the group through a funky rendition of ‘Love The One Your With.’ The gig took place a night after Assembly of Dust leader Reid Genauer was violently ejected from Bostons The Roxy after Assembly of Dusts performance. According to the singer, he was trying to escort some friends and family backstage after his performance when the night club’s manager refused to let them pass. When Genauer protested, the club’s manager told him and the rest of his band to get out. The Roxy has had recent tension with the City of Boston after the clubs capacity was reduced from 1300 to 750 following a violent incident in the club.
He was shouting get out at me, the band, our wives. It was almost comical given we had literally just gotten off the stage 10 minutes prior, says Genauer. When Genauer refused to leave, the Roxy’s manager called for bouncers to physically remove Genauer from his own show. In the confusion that ensued Jack Trifiro, Assembly of Dust’s tour manager, was punched by security. In hindsight, says Genauer, it was really ludicrous. Im a 59 geeky singer, not exactly a security risk for a gang of 300 pound bouncers.
Assembly of Dust will perform at Chicagos Martyrs on November 16, while JJ Grey & MOFRO will appear at Atlantas Echo Project this Friday.
