Last night Marco Benevento closed his free Monday night residency with saxophonist Tony Barba and drummer Conor Elmes at Brooklyn’s Bar 4. For this gig the trio expanded to a quartet with Slip bassist and newly-transplanted Brooklyn resident Marc Friedman. The quartet played a set of improvisational music that Benevento called ‘free jazz in every possible way.’ The keyboardist also confirmed that he would resume his Bar 4 residency Monday nights in January when he is town for a weekly residency
at New York’s Sullivan Hall. Report by Evan Wilson
