Over the weekend, Umphrey’s McGee geared up for tonight’s New Year’s Eve performance at the Aragon Ballroom with two shows at the venue. Flecktone Jeff Coffin was on hand for both gigs, adding sax to last night’s ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’ encore and Saturday’s ‘Jimmy Stewart’ as well as a cover of Simply Red’s ‘Holding Back the Years’ which also featured Jen Hartswick on vocals and trumpet. The Sunday performance also also offered a take on Miles Davis’s ‘Right Off’ (from The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions) with Michael ‘Mad Dog’ Mavridoglou contributing trumpet and conducting the song. Both nights also featured new original material from Umphrey’s, with more quite possibly to follow this evening at the Aragon.
