Last evening Bob Weir and RatDog opened the first night of a three show run at New York’s Beacon Theatre. A number of musicians showed up at the show and found their way onto the stage. Jimmy Herring, who toured with Weir in the Dead (and was in NYC gearing up for this weekend’s Widespread Panic gigs) joined RatDog at the close of the first set for a run from ‘Bird Song’ into ‘Tuesday Blues’ and ‘Aiko Aiko.’ The second set later concluded with Herring’s former Phil & Friends guitar foil, Warren Haynes, who stepped up for a segued sequence that included ‘He’s Gone,’ ‘Sugaree,’ ‘Bird Song’ and ‘Turn On Your Lovelight.’ Particle’s Steve Molitz, who recently appeared with Weir at the Dead Heads For Obama benefit also contributed to ‘Lovelight’ along with vocalist Dana Fuchs.
