The Del McCoury Bands inaugural DelFest took place over the weekend in Cumberland, MD. The event featured performances from a striking number of bluegrass and roots-rock outfits, including the likes of Vince Gill, Dierks Bentley, Keller Williams and The Keels, David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, Sam Bush, Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck, David Bromberg Band with Special Guest the Angel Band, Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile, Railroad Earth and Emmitt-Nershi Band. Jon Fishman also continued his foray into the world of bluegrass by serving as the weekends artist-in-residence. The former Phish drummer led a High Sierra-style workshop (dubbed a playshop), sat in with both Dre’s Rude Awakening and the Del McCoury Band and participated in the festivals late night picking sessions on both Friday and Saturday nights. Fridays jam looked partially intriguing, featuring appearances by Fishman, Keller Williams, Vince Herman, Railroad Earths Tim Carbone and John Skehan, Drew Emmitt, Billy Nershi, and Tyler Grant, along with event hosts Ronnie and Rob McCoury.
