Renowned bassists Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten will hit the road together next month as S.M.V. The three musicians first come together in New York last October when Clarke received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Bass Player magazine at its annual Bass Player Live! Event. Wooten and Miller inducted Clarke and the three musicians later jammed together onstage, sparking the idea for a more permanent union. Earlier this year, S.M.V. entered the studio to record the CD Thunder and will begin an international tour August 15 at Cleveland Heights, OHs Cain Park
Weve each brought in tunes for the CD that allow plenty of space and interpretation from the other guys, Wooten said in a statement. Its been pretty funny, with Marcus and I imitating each other and doing our Stanley licks. Best of all, the project is very musical; the bass heroics are there, but people are going to be surprised at how musical it is.
S.M.V. will headline most U.S. stops on its upcoming tour with the notable exception of an August 27 opening stop for George Benson at Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl. As of press time, the trios tour is scheduled to conclude Lisbon, Portugal on Halloween.
