A number of veteran musicians will come together for West Fest, a free celebration of Woodstocks 40th anniversary. The event will take place at San Franciscos Golden Gate Park on Sunday, October 25, featuring performances by Country Joe McDonald, Michael McClure and Ray Manzarek, the Chambers Brothers, Barry The Fish Melton, Blue Cheer, Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, Harvey Mandel and Denny Laine, among others. The event is being organized by the same folks who produced both Chet Fest Tribute to Chet Helms and the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love and will aim to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the number of guitarists playing together. According to reports, promoters hope to assemble 3000 guitarists to play Jimi Hendrixs Purple Haze.
