Strangefolk co-founders Reid Genauer and Jon Trafton have reunited for a studio version of the early Strangefolk tune Crest of My Wing. Genauer wrote the song when he was 16, and played the song with Strange Folk early on (though the track was never formally recorded). In the years that followed, Jon Trafton and I became musical partners Strange Folk, and then with the addition of Luke Smith (drums) and Eric Glockler (bass), Strangefolk, Genauer says of his friendship with Trafton. We spent over a decade making music together, traveling the country and dreaming big dreams. We had some really high highs (musically and individually), and some rather low lows, but regardless of how history remembers us (or frankly what we remember), one thing is for certain: it was a rich time in life and a deeply personal journey. Genauer left Strangefolk in 2000 to attend business school and, shortly after, formed the new band Assembly of Dust. The studio version of Crest of My Wing was recorded as a bonus track for Some Assembly Required and is currently available on iTunes. Genauer will open for Hill Country Revue at Nashvilles 3rd & Lindsley this Sunday, while Strangefolk will appear at Harmony, MEs Hempstock Fest on August 21.
