In 1971, Dennis Elsas hosted his first radio show on New York’s WNEW radio station, beginning a 25-year run at the famed station. Elsas sat down with countless musicians while at the station, including the likes of John Lennon, Jerry Garcia, Levon Helm, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Peter Townshend. Elsas has recently started archiving his radio interviews on his personal homepage and one of his latest archival offerings is of particular interest to Jambands.com readers: Phish’s April 13, 1994 performance in the WNEW studios. The bands plays three songs—“Sample in a Jar,” “Down With Disease,” and “Rift,” discusses an endorsement offer from Snapple and Trey Anastasio’s broken leg.
