The members of Wilco are the latest musicians to participate in Beck’s Record Club series. The innovative concept finds Beck and friends recording an entire album in a day without rehearsal. While in Los Angeles this past June Wilco entered Sunset Sound Studios—the legendary room that produced the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street—to take on Jefferson Airplane/Moby Grope member Skip Spence’s solo album Oar. Leslie Feist, who sings on the latest Wilco record, was in town editing a documentary and also participated in the sessions, while Jamie Lidell worked on the album between his own recording sessions with Beck. Other guests include Bill Withers drummer James Gadson, Record Club veteran Brian Lebarton and Jeff Tweedy’s blogger son Spencer. The first song from the project, “Little Hands,” is now available. Beck also recorded a track on the Skip Spence tribute album More Oar: A Tribute to Alexander “Skip” Spence.
