Furthur headlined New York’s Madison Square Garden for the first time this past Saturday and Sunday. In celebration of the band’s return to Manhattan, the Empire State Building was lit in tie-dye colors throughout the weekend. This is the third time Bob Weir and Phil Lesh have headlined Madison Square Garden since the death of Jerry Garcia (the musicians performed at MSG with The Other Ones in 2002, as well as with The Dead in 2009).

Before Sunday night’s performance, Weir spent some time backstage hanging with real estate developer Billy Procida and rapper Lil’ Kim. Weir and Lil’ Kim also riffed on “Truckin’,” a song that would later open Furthur’s set. Lil’ Kim took in the performance from the venue’s soundboard.
