The mighty Max Creek last fall

The Roots Cafe on Westminster St. in Providence is hosting a special free show this evening. Music will start at 9 PM with two sets scheduled by a six-piece group assembled for the occasion. Scott Murawski (Mike Gordon/Max Creek) will share guitar duties with Tony Betancourt, while Sam Kininger will appear on saxophone, Baron Brown will add bass, Lionel Cordew will appear on drums and Gregorio Vento will add congas. The occasion will be the birthday of Max Creek manager Eric Freitas, which technically starts at midnight, so buy him a lovely beverage if you attend.

As for Creek, the group will kick off a three show run to celebrate its 40th anniversary, starting next Thursday, April 28 in Simsbury, CT at The Old Well followed by gig on Friday the 29th at New York’s Sullivan Hall and then on Saturday the 30th in Pawtucket, RI at The Met.
