Over the next three nights, Marshall Crenshaw will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his self-titled debut album. At these City Winery gigs, he will be joined by Yo La Tengo guitarist Ira Kaplan, longtime bassist Graham Maby and ulu drummer Josh Dion (with Crenshaw’s brother Robert behind the kit tonight). In his recent interview with the site’s Randy Ray, Crenshaw explained how Kaplan came on board: “Well, this will be the first time we’ve played together. I have become a really big fan of Yo La Tengo over the last five or six years. I love him, in fact, and I was trying to think of someone who could fill out the band, someone who could come in there and add some spice to the whole thing, and I just thought of him.”
