Sumlin with Clapton

On February 24, New York’s famed Apollo Theater will host a memorial concert for legendary bluesman Hubert Sumlin, who passed away at the age of 80 in December of 2011. The star studded lineup of performers gathering to honor the legendary guitarist includes Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Dr. John, Levon Helm, Derek Trucks, Gary Clark Jr., Keb Mo, Doyle Bramhall II, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Shemekia Copeland, Steve Jordan, Willie Weeks, Ivan Neville and more. Sumlin is best known as the primary guitarist in Howlin’ Wolf’s band and was ranked number 43 in the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
