Bob Weir Shares the Stage with Lukas Nelson

Bob Weir sat in with Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real last night. The Grateful Dead/Furthur guitarist joined Nelson for “Jailhouse Rock,” “Little Red Rooster,” “Maggie’s Farm” and “I Shall Be Released” at Mill Valley, CA’s Sweetwater. Weir helped reopen the club earlier this year and has joined a variety of artists at the venue over the course of the past few months. Earlier this year Weir and Nelson also collaborated at both Weir’s TRI Studios and San Francisco’s The Independent. Nelson will film a webcast at TRI Studios on April 17.

I attended the Independent show and witnessed not only Lukas and Bob playing together but also saw them joined by Ruby Stewart of REvoltaire (the opening act). That made it what I called “The geezer and two children of the future”. Ruby is Rod’s daughter. She has a Joplin-esque voice; Lukas plays a fine guitar and has a Willie-esque voice; and Bob is a Dead one. It was a great experience!
