Jimi Hendrix Estate Dismisses Biopic Rumors

A number of media outlets reported earlier this week that Outkasts’ Andre 3000 had been selected to play Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic about the guitarist’s life. That rumor was quashed today when Experience Hendrix, the family-owned company that controls Hendrix’s music and publishing catalog, released a statement saying that the film would be unable to use the guitarists’s original music or copyrights without their full participation. However, it appears there is still a possibility of the film moving forward as the statement suggests.

Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a “biopic” in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.

Musicians leaving their creative legacy in the hands of family members who lack any idea about music or the industry is the bane of my existence.

Agreed. And say what you will, but I think Andre 3000 could pull off the role very well.

At last a film! Andre and the production company should all sit down together, and watch `The Redding Experience` (MNVDISCS) dvd. For a true insight into the real Hendrix? This is the definitive story, as told by Noel (Redding) and produced by Will Scally. please feel free to contact me. Regards, Barry Levene

Why would you not wanna share his story? He did so much in very little time. They are willing to explote his name in so many worthless products but not share his story. Come on. Andre would pull it off beautifully as well.

People don’t even realize the effect Jimi had on music….
The sonic spectrum of the guitar was basically black & white until Jimi came and brought the guitar to HIghDef.
