Arcade Fire covering The Rolling Stones

According to Entertainment Weekly, arena-size alternative rock bands Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters will back Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger on SNL next week. The Stones frontman will host the variety show for the first time and also serve as the program’s musical guest. Since the singer does not have a new studio album out—and the Stones are not prepping for a tour—there is some question as to what songs Jagger would perform.

Arcade Fire Phi’s Will Butler, Jeremy Gara, Tim Kingsbury, and Richard Reed Parry played a surprise set at New York’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival this past Saturday under the name Phi Slamma Jamma. The indie rock group offered a selection of covers by artists ranging from Flying Burrito Brothers to Bob Dylan and R.E.M. They also covered Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time.” SNL’s season finale will air on May 19.
