Radiohead drummer Phil Selway has issued a statement following the loss of 33-year-old drum technician Scott Johnson, who died yesterday in a stage collapse prior to the group’s performance in Toronto, Canada..

We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.

The incident occurred shortly before doors were scheduled to open for Radiohead’s performance in Toronto’s Downsview Park on Saturday. According to sources, the stage collapsed as equipment was being erected, killing Johnson and injuring three others. The show, which would have closed out Radiohead’s North American tour, was subsequently canceled.
