Widespread Panic kicked off night one of the second Panic En La Playa yesterday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. A toast from festival organizers Cloud 9 introduced the band, who took the stage around 8pm. Widespread got going early in the first set with an “Airplane” that went into an extended “Take Off Jam”, followed by a “Rebirtha” that segued into “Heaven.” The set also included a rendition of the Bill Withers classic “Use Me.” The bulk of set two consisted of two extended jams. The first was “Diner” > “Conrad” > Drumz (& Bass) > “Papa Legba.” That string of songs was followed by “Contentment Blues, which featured a tease of the Grateful Dead’s “The Other One,” sandwiched between “Henry Parsons Died” to wrap up the set. The show then came to a close with an encore of “Dirty Side Down” and “Protein Drink” > “Sewing Machine.” Last night’s full setlist can be viewed below.
