Jim James kicked off his solo tour last night at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia. The 250-capacity concert hall was packed as James took the stage with his backing band, which consisted of Dave Givan on drums, Alana Rocklin on bass, Dan Dorf on keyboards and Kevin Ratterman on percussion and samples. Fans of James’ debut solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God received a treat, as the record was played in its entirety. The set was followed by an encore that kicked off with an acoustic rendition of My Morning Jacket’s “Wonderful” before the band came back out for MMJ’s “Wordless Chorus,” “It Beats For You,” and “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Parts 1 and 2,” followed by a show closing “Victory Dance.” James will be at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY tonight.
