Preservation Hall Jazz Band Sit In With Billy Joel at Jazz Fest

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band joined Billy Joel during his set at Jazz Fest on Saturday. The iconic New Orleans outfit took the stage for Joel’s classic “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant.” Joel also incorporated some New Orleans flair into his set in other ways—with a tease of Jimmy Horton’s “Battle of New Orleans” during “Big Man on Mulberry Street” and another tease of local favorite “Iko Iko” during the “River of Dreams” encore.

This Saturday’s Jazz Fest performance was Joel’s second full set in two years. The singer-songwriter played a show in Sydney, Australia last weekend, but he has no more concerts scheduled at the moment.

Kudos to Billy for adding a little N.O. flair to his set. Looking forward to seeing at least some of it on AXS TV this weekend. Now I just wish the guy would get inspired to FINALLY make new music again. Guys like Dylan, McCartney, and so many others have had great “comebacks” in recent years. Billy could do the same, if he wanted to.
