Grace Potter sat in with The Roots on Independence Day during their 4th of July Jam. Potter emerged partway through The Roots’ extended set at Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway for her own “Nothing But he Water,” “Paris (Ooh La La)” and “Stars.” She remained onstage for a cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Rock Steady.”

Potter was one of several guests to join the Philadelphia heroes during their performance. Other acts included DJ Jazzy Jeff, John Mayer, Jill Scott, Ne-Yo and J. Cole. For his act, Mayer sat in on his own “Something Like Olivia,” “Queen of California,” “Waiting on the World to Change” and Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself.”

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals will open for Dave Matthews Band at Clarkston, MI’s DTE Energy Music Theatre this evening. Meanwhile, Roots drummer Questlove will spin at his Hybrid restaurant at New York’s Chelsea Market from 11am-12pm today. Potter has also confirmed a solo appearance with The Flaming Lips at Oklahoma City, OK’s Chesapeake Energy Arena on July 23 as part of the Rock For Oklahoma benefit concert.
