Carlos Santana reunited with members of the original Santana band this past Wednesday. Journey, a band formed and still led by classic Santana guitarist Neal Schon, headlined Las Vegas’ Pearl at the Palms, not far from where Carlos Santana hosts a regular residency at Las Vegas’ House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

During Journey’s encore, Santana and keyboardist Gregg Rolie, a founding Santana band member who formed Journey with Schon in 1973 but left in 1980, emerged for a jam that led into the Santana classic “Soul Sacrifice.” It is the first known time the three musicians have performed together at the same time since Schon and Rolie left Santana. The original members of Santana are currently working on a reunion project that will also feature core original band members Michael Shrieve (drums) and Michael Carabello (percussion).

Carlos Santana’s Vegas residency resumes on September 11.
