Widespread Panic kicked off Panic En La Playa at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Domincan Republic last night. While the show wouldn’t feature any sit-ins, the band did rely on several covers throughout the show along with a slew of their own originals.

With Duane Trucks still on drums in place of Todd Nance, the band dug into an opening “Surprise Valley” sandwiched in between a pair of jams. “Bear’s Gone Fishin” and “Good People” followed before finishing up “Surprise Valley.” The first cover of the night came in the form of “Fixin’ to Die” before “Conrad” closed the first set.

Panic opened up a cover-heavy second set with the Talking Heads’ “Papa Legba” before their original “Hope in a Hopeless World” and Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” the first since November 2014. Alan Price’s “Sell, Sell, Sell” followed before a pair of originals in “Stop-Go” and “Blue Indian.” Panic closed the set with a pair of covers with a “Drumz” segment in between as JJ Cale’s “Ride Me High” and Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain” before the set-closing “St. Ex.” The band returned for an encore of ZZ Top’s “Waiting for the Bus” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago” before the show-closing “Show Tractor.”
