My Morning Jacket ended their year-long hiatus with a show last night in Mexico as their own One Big Holiday destination event kicked off. The band opened with a debut of “Ride Like the Wind” by Christopher Cross before rolling through many of their classics including “Off the Record” and “Evil Urges” as well as “It Beats 4 U.”

The first guest spot came at the start of a covers medley as The War on Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel joined the band for The Cars’ hit “Drive” which led into Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” featuring Granduciel and Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath. The ensemble would stay out for Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” and Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You,” all debuts for MMJ. Granduciel would hang around for the following “Steam Engine” before Jacket closed the set with “Run Thru.”

During the encore, the band debuted their first new song of 2015 entitled (according to the soundboard setlist) “Big D.” As previously reported, My Morning Jacket will release a new album this year and this may be the first preview of new material. The final surprise of the night came during the rarity “Cobra” which included a middle section of Hall & Oates’ “I Can’t Go For That” with the help of Clint Maedgen of Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

One Big Holiday continues tonight.
