Influential garage rockers The Sonics celebrated the release of their first album since 1980, This is the Sonics, with a show at the Moore Theater in Seattle. During the show, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic emerged to sit in with the band.

As Consequence of Sound points out, Novoselic joined in on a couple of tunes including “Cinderella” from the band’s 1966 album Boom.

Not only have the members of Nirvana cited The Sonics as an inspiration to them (as have The White Stripes and others) but Kurt Cobain was also quoted in a 1994 interview as saying that The Sonics “got the most amazing drum sound I’ve ever heard. Still to this day, it’s still my favorite drum sound.”

This is the Sonics was released on March 31.

Mudhoney’s Mark Arm also sat in during the show. Check out a clip below. Arm was involved in The Sonics tribute album released in 2000.
