The Disco Biscuits continued their New Year’s run at New York’s PlayStation Theater last night with a “Spin the Wheel” second set that featured a major bustout.

The scene was set from the beginning with game show music playing over the house PA, and keyboardist Aron Magner played host, putting on his best game show voice. After a first set that included the first “Mario Star Jam” since 4/22/07, the second frame saw the band bring out the wheel of chance that had several tunes and actions to guide the group’s jamming. This marked only the third time the Biscuits have utilized the wheel to determine a setlist on the fly. They first brought it out in Atlantic City on 10/25/02 and then once more in Sayreville, NJ on 2/15/07.

The first spin yielded “Floes,” which led into “Lunar Pursuit” and then the first “Sweating Bullets” in over five years (9/18/10) before the wheel landed on “Unspoken Rhyme,” causing the first performance of the tune since April 10, 2001. “Rhyme” was penned by keyboardist Aron Magner along with former sound man Jon Lesser while Marc Brownsten took a hiatus around the turn of the century. The Wheel set ended with another “Mario” jam and “Above the Waves.” The band later returned to the stage for a “Munchkin Invasion” encore.

The Disco Biscuits will finish their run at the PlayStation Theater tonight.
