Non-profit organization HeadCount is presenting its inaugural Convention Jams this year during both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in Cleveland and Philadelphia, respectively, with artists like Grace Potter and Dawes, but Moon Taxi, who were set to play the event in Cleveland, have released a statement saying they have backed out of the performance.

As JamBase reports, the statement, which can be viewed in full below, asserts that the band doesn’t “feel comfortable” playing the event, which they say “is no longer a nonpartisan statement” for them. “We are very respectful of the fact we have fans across the broad political spectrum, and we continue to encourage our fans to participate in the voting process”

The Convention Jams will take place at the House of Blues in Cleveland on July 18 and the following week at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory.

From Moon Taxi:

Due to the current political climate, we no longer feel comfortable performing at the nonpartisan Headcount.org event in Cleveland next week to promote voter registration. This is a divisive election, and we have always tried to support participation within the voting process through our friends at Headcount.org, but this performance is no longer a nonpartisan statement for us, the band. We are very respectful of the fact we have fans across the broad political spectrum, and we continue to encourage our fans to participate in the voting process.
