Last week, guitar string company and music education proponents D’Addario brought together a star-studded group of musicians for “Music Makes You,” a benefit show at the BRIC Arts and Media Space in Brooklyn that featured a house band led by guitarist, producer and singer-songwriter Blake Mills. The benefit ended up raising $160,000 toward music education.

Highlights from the night included a surprise performance from Jackson Browne, who teamed up with Mills and Lucius for Little Feat’s “Willin’,” which was recorded for Showtime’s recently canceled show Roadies by Browne and Lucius. Browne would also play the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” with Mills, Lucius, Smokey Hormel, Marc Ribot and Julian Lage. Mills also joined the latter three musicians for a supergroup run of songs that featured Lonnie Johnson’s “Tomorrow Night” and Duke Ellington’s “Blues In Blueprint.”

Lucius also treated the crowd to their own performance, including an emotional “Dusty Trails,” while Yeah Yeah Yeahs bandmates Karen O and Nick Zinner played acoustic renditions of “Gold Lion” and “Hideaway.” Other artists performing during the benefit included Janis Ian, who played her hit “At Seventeen,” and guitarist Kaki King, who played “Tiny Pan.”
