Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzmann’s New Year’s plans included taking part in an all-star show in Hanalei Bay, Hawaii surrounded by many other special guests as they rang in 2017 with a set of covers and Dead tunes.

Playing a party for The Other One director Michael Fliess, Kreutzmann and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell organized a night of music that included Reed Mathis and Todd Stoops of Electric Beethoven and Campbell’s associate Jason Sinay (Ape).

Weir emerged early on to take the band through tunes like “Turn On Your Lovelight,” “Bird Song,” “Loser” and “The Other One,” among others. After setbreak, Taj Mahal joined the fold (minus Weir) for a set of his tunes including “Corinna” before Weir returned to lead the band through more songs including a post-midnight rendition of “Ripple” after a toast.

Next up for Weir and Kruetzmann is the Los Muertos Con Queso destination event later this month where they will collaborate with Dave Schools, Jeff Chimenti and Tom Hamilton. More info is available here.
