Grateful Dead confidant and famed LSD-maker Owsley “Bear” Stanley was also an avid and accomplished engineer and recordist, and the foundation bearing his name has announced the release of a rare recording by the late Stanley of Doc Watson with his son Merle from 1974.

The recording of the Watsons marks the first box set release from the bluegrass legend and includes never-before-released material from Stanley’s massive vault known as Bear’s Sonic Journals. The 7-CD collection is taken from recordings over four nights and also ships with a booklet of liner notes.
